Pediatrics Case 11 Diagnosis
Diagnosis is made with AP and lateral plain films of the hip. A step-off will be seen on the affected hip at the growth plate where the epiphysis meets the metaphysis. On an AP view, Klein’s line (white) is an imaginary line that can be drawn across the superior border of the femoral neck. When extended, this line should normally run through the epiphysis of the femoral head (white line on the right hip). In SCFE, Klein’s line will not intersect the epiphysis (outlined in yellow), as seen in the left hip on the radiograph below.
