Wrist Case 9 Background

Hamate fractures account for approximately 5% of carpal fractures, with the hook being the most common location. The hamate is located on the ulnar side of the distal row of carpal bones. The body articulates with the capitate, triquetrum and 4^th and 5^th metacarpals. The hook of the hamate projects outward. The hook is part of Guyton's canal, which contains the ulnar nerve and artery, which are at risk in hamate fractures.
